American Idol Gives Back-

I didn't say more about this last night for several reasons- personal and otherwise. But, it has come to my attention that I gave this amazing two hours of television short shrift.

Let's start by saying how fun it was to see entertainers from so many different venues take part in this effort. It was also amazing to see the personal investment of the Idol cast (Judges and Seacrest). It was an emotional rollercoaster between the powerful segments about where the money will go and the humorous and entertaining pieces provided by so many entertainers.

I appreciated seeing a different side of Simon Cowell- the segment from Africa and how moved he was by that experience brought tears to my eyes.

I thought the (shock) ending was overblown and unnecessary. I hope this event becomes a regular staple of the show into the future.

My computer is giving me grief so I must limit my words on this for now.

Peace!

Much better! Thank you, Jon. We found the two hours very emotional, as well. The occasional comic relief was appreciated, as the segments went from shocking to more shocking. We need to be reminded every now and again about how millions suffer in the world. I always wonder why I sit so comfortably in my living room chair, decaf in hand, hubby nearby, puppy at my feet....while thirteen orphans are being cared for in just one, tent-sized room. It is the same feeling I experience on Christmas morning, when the carpet is littered with wrapping paper. How does God decide?

Back to "Idol". Celine and Elvis blew me away. The minute the "First Idol" intro was made, I knew. I still miss Elvis, whose early demise sadly epitomized the negative side of celebrity.

Appalachia.....I can't imagine a parent being unable to read a bed-time story to his or her child. Right here in America.......illiteracy and profound poverty....blown away again.

In discussing the show with my very young cousin this morning, she "introduced" me to a friend of hers. She did a story about him for her college newspaper. His work for humanity is analogous to the important work done last night. Musicians - they have the ability to rise above heartache and struggle and give the glimmer of hope and joy....it is a gift to be re-gifted. I hope you'll check out the link about Samite: http://musiciansforworldharmony.org/index.html

The music was just fantastic last night. Yes, the universal language lives; something we can share, regardless of our language or lifestyle barriers.

The ending.....I thought it a tad mean to first give poor Jordin a heart attack, only to tell her that she is safe. I agree...unnecessary.

Finally, last night's show was VALUABLE television; and, it made me proud to be a fan of "Idol". I made a contribution within ten minutes of its end. It felt good. I'm just ONE, but I can make a difference.

Thank you for the opportunity to post this, where I know at least ONE kind person will read it. I miss you elsewhere.

PEACE back at you. I wish the world could have peace.
